Page 3 of 3 External Hard Drive At Home Once you get the images home, storing backup copies on an external hard drive is a wise thing to do. Computer hard drives are known to crash. If you only have one copy of your image files, theyll be gone. With two hard drives, if either one goes down, you can just transfer the data onto a replacement hard drive. You also have the option of keeping the external drive away from your computer as an extra precaution...just in case. Portable Storage Device Even though memory cards store a lot of information, a portable storage device with an LCD monitor is a smart investment for several reasons. You can back up your images to it in the field, and it's also ideal for reviewing your images on a screen larger than your cameras LCD. Cleaning Kit Most image sensors on D-SLRs are vulnerable to dust and particles when you're changing lenses. Even if you're extremely careful, chances are, at some point a speck of dirt or dust will get on the sensor. When that happens, you can't simply wipe it off with a tissue or cloth. Image sensors are easily damaged from such cleaning, plus the tissue or cloth may leave behind unwanted residue. A good cleaning kit is something to always keep with you.
